Osorno, a city of aproximadamente 160,000 people in Chile's Los Lagos Region, serves as a major agricultural and commercial hub for the surrounding Lake District. While not a traditional tourist destination in itself, Osorno's strategic location makes it an important winter base for exploring the region's volcanic landscapes, aguas termales, and ski areas.
