Fishing Spots: Valdivia
Valdivia is a charming university city in southern Chile where rivers converge, offering excellent fly fishing on the Río Calle-Calle, Río Cruces, and surrounding tributaries. The lush temperate rainforest setting and rich river systems make it a rewarding and accessible fishing destination.
Overview
Valdivia sits at the confluence of several rivers in Chile's Los Ríos region, surrounded by dense temperate rainforest. While primarily known as a cultural and university city famous for its craft beer and German heritage, Valdivia offers outstanding fly fishing on its extensive river systems. The Río Calle-Calle, formed by the confluence of the Río San Pedro and Río Cruces, flows directly through the city. Upstream, the Río San Pedro drains Lago Riñihue and holds impressive trout. The wetlands of the Río Cruces sanctuary provide unique fishing opportunities. Valdivia's accessibility from Santiago and its well-developed infrastructure make it an excellent first or last stop on a Chilean fishing trip.
