Outono in Strait of Magellan

The Strait of Magellan, the narrow waterway separating mainland South America from Tierra del Fuego, has captivated explorers since Ferdinand Magellan's fleet navigated its treacherous waters in 1520. Today, the city of Punta Arenas on the strait's northern shore serves as the gateway to this historic and wildlife-rich region.

Autumn, from março through maio, brings a dramatic and moody atmosphere to the strait. The low-angle sun creates extraordinary lighting conditions over the water, and the surrounding landscape takes on the warm tones of the Patagonian steppe in its outono dress.
