Otoño in Puerto Williams

Puerto Williams holds the distinction of being the world's surernmost city, located on Isla Navarino across the Beagle Channel from Ushuaia. This tiny Chilean settlement is the last outpost of civilization before Antarctica, and otoño here, de marzo a mayo, offers one of the most unique and remote travel experiences on the planet.

The town sits at the foot of the dramatic Dientes de Navarino mountain range, whose jagged teeth-like peaks provide a spectacular backdrop. In autumn, the lenga and coigüe forests that cover the lower slopes transform into a blaze of gold and amber, contrasting with the dark peaks and the steely waters of the Beagle Channel. This is one of the few places where you can witness subantarctic follaje otoñal — a rare and privileged sight.

The Dientes de Navarino circuit trek, considered the world's surernmost trail, is a challenging multi-day route that adventurous hikers attempt in marzo y principios de abril before conditions become too harsh. Even for non-trekkers, Puerto Williams offers short walks through mossy forests, visits to the Martín Gusinde Anthropological Museum documenting the Yaghan people, and the simple pleasure of being at the end of the world. Reaching Puerto Williams requires a flight from Punta Arenas or a ferry, adding to the sense of adventure.
