Villarrica, sitting at the western end of Lago Villarrica in Chile's Araucanía region, offers a calmer and more culturally rich alternative to the adventure-tourism buzz of neighboring Pucón, just 25 km east. The town has deep Mapuche heritage reflected in its museums, markets, and community tourism initiatives. For car campers, Villarrica provides excellent lakeside camping with the same stunning Villarrica Volcano views at lower prices and with fewer crowds. The surrounding area features hot springs, native forest, and agricultural landscapes that offer a different flavor of the Lake District experience. A rental car lets you easily access both Villarrica's relaxed camping scene and Pucón's adventure activities, getting the best of both worlds.

Can I swim in Lago Villarrica?
